Buenos Tardes de Peru!

Brazil was exciting, Uruguay was beautiful, Bueno s Aires was wonderful but Peru has knocked our socks off!

Our hosts at A&K Peru have showed us more amazing places in the last 6 days than we could ever have imagined and we have only just scratched the surface of this hugely diverse country.  A&K has taken us to dinner at private colonial mansions, to lunch at a mountaintop hacienda with a private collection of pre-Inca artifacts, to lowly peasant homes where the guinea pigs roam the kitchen and are the delicacy of the day, to magnificent cathedrals and monasteries and awesome Inca ruins. Then of course to the crown jewel, Machu Picchu, which is every bit as breathtaking as the photos you have seen. On train rides and by road, we have seen the snow-capped Andes, mountain farms where fields are plowed by oxen, colonial towns and cities, local produce and handicraft markets, ancient weaving techniques, grazing llamas and alpacas and lots of corn and potatoes. Markets and stores selling the softest, silkiest baby alpaca goods and beautiful silver at very reasonable prices are everywhere. It is a shopper’s paradise.

We have stayed at and visited outstanding hotels who will welcome you with luxurious comfort in totally awesome surroundings … at breakfast yesterday for instance, we bottle fed the baby alpacas at the Rio Sagrado Hotel in the Sacred Valley.

Here all of these fabulous options and more are available to you through our connections with A&K Peru where a friendly people are waiting to show you their magnificent country and offer you a glimpse of their amazing history and culture with traditions that continue today. Put Peru at the top of your Bucket List …. we promise you will not be disappointed.

Viva Buenos Aires!

We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Buenos Aires. Yesterday we explored the city and its distinctly different districts from end to end with our fabulous guide….Robert´s camera is overheating! Will post some photos later. Every area is just amazing and it is so incredibly beautiful for such a large city …. most of the main avenues have 16-24 lanes of traffic lined with majestic palm trees and Parisian style architecture interspersed with new skyscrapers!

Last night we enjoyed a fantastic dinner and outstanding Tango Show at the beautiful Faena Hotel. This Virtuoso hotel located in an old granary and designed by Philippe Starck will knock everyone´s socks off. Today we continued our hotel inspections at the Alvear Palace and Four Seasons … two very different ultra deluxe properties which are totally awesome. I have run out of superlatives….

The weather continues to be perfect with sunny blue skies and comfortable temperatures … put Argentina and Buenos Aires on your bucket list for sure!

On to Lima in a few hours …. stay tuned….

Buenas Dias from Buenos Aires

After several wonderful days exploring along the southern coast of Brazil, we spent an amazing day yesterday in Montevideo, Uruguay. With our Virtuoso Voyager Club group we enjoyed an excursion to a wonderful winery where we were wined, dined and entertained by local singers and dancers before exploring the old town of Montevideo  which is an extremely beautiful city. After a drive along the 12-mile coastal “Rambla” we stopped for coffee at a beautiful restaurant overlooking the River Plata.

Today we are in the “Paris of South America,” Buenos Aires. This morning we left for a visit to an estancia in the Pampas where the gauchos showed off their horsemanship skills and we dined on an Asado (Argentinian barbecue) lunch under the trees out in the fields … just awesome! Tomorrow we meet our guide to explore this wonderful city and then enjoy Tango Rojo in the evening…. and then on to Lima …. stay tuned

Bom Dia from Brazil

Bom Dia from Brazil and the beautiful Silver Whisper. After enjoying two marvelous days in fabulous Rio de Janeiro today we have sailed to picture-postcard perfect Paraty.

Nestled amongst a bevy of small island, beaches and backed by green mountains, this sleepy little town made prosperous by the gold mining in the 17th century was forgotten once the road to Rio was built so it remains an exquisite colonial gem. Along the car-free cobblestone streets the restored white-washed buildings with colorful trim now house artist’s studios and chic boutiques – at one of which I found some delicious Brazilian sandals!

On board the Silver Whisper we are of course being spoiled to death. With our Butler at our beck and call and all the staff treating us royally, we have long forgotten the woes of the world.

Last night  we hosted our Virtuoso Voyager Club guests at a wonderful private cocktail reception (think champagne, shrimp and caviar and so much more) followed by an exquisite “Taste of Italy” dinner in La Terrazza.

On to another adventure as we sail south …….stay tuned!
